HIGHLIGHTS
Volunteers
Assemble 250 Hygeine Kits for Katrina Survivors
On Saturday, September 10, over 50 youth volunteers,
representing several faith groups, came to Webster Groves
Christian Church to assemble 250 hygiene kits. The youth and
adults who participated also had a moment to share with one
another about their faith traditions. The kits were donated
to the American Red Cross for dissemination to survivors of
Hurricane Katrina. This project was part of the Month of Unity,
an annual series of events sponsored by Faith Beyond Walls
in partnershp with Interfaith Partnership to promote interfaith
dialogue and service. Thanks to all of our volunteers who
participated!

SLICE Summer
Initiative Huge Success!
With
over 100 youth from St. Louis and around
the country participating, St. Louis Interfaith Community
Explorations (SLICE), a pilot program launched by FBW this
past summer, was a huge success. The program was designed
to bring together interfaith youth for weeklong service camps.
Monday of each week began with a Poverty Simulation during
which participants role-played the lives of low-income families,
including single parents, people with disabilities, and senior
citizens on Social Security. The next four days included assignments
throughout the St. Louis region volunteering on community
improvement projects.
Projects
mainly focused on neighborhood beautification as volunteers
we worked side-by- side with residents to help mulch smaller
trees around area parks, clean sidewalks, preserve neighborhood
gardens and experience the joy of serving in local communities.
Special thank to all the volunteers and neighborhood partners
who made this a successful and meaningful summer of service.
